Día de Muertos Celebration at Desert Botanical Garden

*PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A SELF-GUIDED ADVENTURE - no Atabey Outdoors staff on site. Show up when you want & stay as long as you like!

Celebrate the vibrant and heartfelt tradition of Día de Muertos at the Desert Botanical Garden! This two-day festival is a joyous way for families to honor loved ones who have passed while experiencing the beauty of Mexican culture. The event features live music, traditional dance performances, and storytelling that bring the symbolism of Día de Muertos to life.

Visitors can explore the stunning community altar, centered around the legend of the Cempasúchil flower, which is believed to guide the souls of the departed back to the world of the living. The altar is decorated with monumental flower sculptures and handcrafted artwork, creating a breathtaking display of color and meaning. Children will enjoy crafts, face painting, and browsing the Mercado filled with art and jewelry.

Each day culminates with La Procesión, a lively procession through the garden where visitors march alongside performers, concluding with the traditional burning of troubles—a symbolic way of letting go and moving forward. This immersive experience is a beautiful way to reflect, connect, and celebrate life.
